The 49 General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), a meeting of country leaders that serves as the supreme decision-making body of the Organization of American States (OAS), will take place this June. The theme of the assembly, hosted by Colombia, is “Innovating to strengthen hemispheric multilateralism.”
According to the Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of Colombia, Adriana Mejía, the Assembly’s theme emphasizes the key role of the Inter-American System in the countries of the hemisphere and the need to adapt to the challenges of the 21st Century.
“We must renew our commitment as member states to the values and principles contained in the OAS Charter, but we must also provide Inter-American multilateralism with more effective instruments to fulfill its mission,” said the Colombian diplomat.
It will be the third time that the General Assembly of the OAS has been held in Colombia. The previous times were in Medellín (2008) and Cartagena (1985).

Social Good Peru, Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), and Emprende UP, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Universidad del Pacífico, came together to develop a Peruvian youth dialogue around the 49th General Assembly.
The contributions of this youth dialogue in Peru will be incorporated with other contributions made by other young people from countries around the Americas. The results will be presented in the dialogue of the Heads of Delegation, the Secretary General and the OAS Assistant Secretary General, with the Representatives of the Civil Society and other Social Actors.
During the youth dialogue, young participants had the opportunity to add their voices through debate and social leadership to the process of youth participation. Continue to follow the conversation to learn how the Americas are working to protect the future of hemispheric multilateralism.
